Leading Figures

In its history, over 150 outstanding individuals were at the head of Deutsche Bank and the bank it merged with in 1929, Disconto-Gesellschaft. Some of them came from families of the financial elite; others had worked their way up from modest circumstances to the highest positions in the bank. Many of them spent their entire working life - which could be up to 60 years - at the bank; for others it was just a step along the way, for example, to a position in government. Most of them had a traditional banking career behind them, but there were many who came from other fields.

In alphabetical order are biographies of all members of Deutsche Bank's Management Board and Joint Proprietors of Disconto-Gesellschaft, all chairmen of the Supervisory Board, and the members of Deutsche Bank's first Administrative Board in 1870.
