Augsburg

Deutsche Bank Augsburg Branch

Opening:
01.07.1906

Country:
Germany

On July 1, 1906, Deutsche Bank opened a branch in Augsburg. It took over the business and buildings of the private bank Buhler & Heymann, which had only been founded a few years earlier. Augsburg was Deutsche Bank's third branch in Bavaria, after Munich (1892) and Nuremberg (1905). Bavaria, which at that time was still predominantly agricultural, was no easy terrain for Deutsche Bank. For a large bank focused on foreign trade and industrial business, the interest in Bavaria as a location was hence for a long time limited to a few economic centres, including, of course, the Fugger city of Augsburg with its extraordinary trading tradition. The new branch was officially known as "Bayerische Filiale der Deutschen Bank - Depositenkasse Augsburg". In organisational terms, it was thus subordinated to the Munich branch and initially had a reduced range of services compared to a full branch. In 1918 the Depositenkasse was converted into a branch. In the same year, the company moved into the Fuggerstraße 1 at Königsplatz, which is still in use today. One of the Augsburg branch directors of this period was Hans Rummel, who was later appointed to the Board of Management of the entire bank. In 1961, Deutsche Bank Augsburg opened its first branch office in the city, and a wreath of branches was also opened in the surrounding area of Augsburg starting in the mid-1960s.

Disconto-Gesellschaft, Berlin, opened its Augsburg branch in 1922, which was merged with Deutsche Bank's Augsburg branch on October 29, 1929.
